The Enhancement of Environmental Protection with EnviroHub: How Can I Use EnviroHub?

EnviroHub is a modular system designed to help organisations that abstract or discharge water, meet their environmental and reporting obligations. It is often used for recycling on-site process water, reducing the competition for clean supplies from mains tap or local environment abstraction.

In an age where protecting the environment is more important than ever, it is the perfect addition to any quarry, heavy industry, or construction site seeking to comply with the law on wastewater disposal, without the management headache.

The Current Legal Landscape

From the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the mining, quarry, and construction industries contributed significantly to water pollution. Contamination from runoff containing everything from oil and chemicals to heavy metals and other construction-related debris became increasingly commonplace. Nevertheless, as public awareness and appreciation of the environment grew, stringent controls and monitoring systems were introduced.

Today, various laws and regulations make it an offence to discharge pollutants into controlled waters. The Environment Agency can prosecute companies who do commit an offence and established in a recent Supreme Court case, anyone who causes a nuisance or aggravated trespass by releasing contaminated water into another person’s property/watercourse can also be sued for damages in a civil court. It is also no longer necessary to prove the incident was caused by negligence or deliberate wrongdoing, effectively lowering the bar for prosecution.

Having a comprehensive treatment system in place is vital to combat the risk of severe penalties, such as unlimited fines and/or imprisonment.

How EnviroHub Can Enhance Your Wastewater Management

EnviroHub is a complete, easy-to-install monitoring and dosing system to ensure compliance. It is designed to help companies protect the environment and themselves. Not only does it treat many common water contaminants, but it also provides data which demonstrates your compliance efforts.

While it is not yet ready for end-to-end sewage treatment, it can successfully deal with pH, temperature, turbidity and silt contamination as well as prevent discharge volume breaches.

Real-time Monitoring of Wastewater pH

EnviroHub can monitor and rectify pH imbalances in water. Acid or alkaline water is common in construction wastewater. For example, when contaminated with cement it can become very alkaline while acid mine drainage can cause it to be very acidic. EnviroHub can assess and apply the correct chemicals to restore a neutral pH of 7.

Site Dewatering

Construction and quarry sites often require the removal of excess water that accumulates from digging down or by washing equipment. EnviroHub can ensure any water collected because of these processes is successfully treated and decontaminated.

Turbidity Control

This refers to the cloudiness or haziness of water. By slowing it down and controlling the flow, EnviroHub can optimise conditions for suspended solids to settle. This creates clearer water and a concentrated sediment sludge, which can be treated and disposed of separately.

Site Water Recycling

Site process water and ‘grey water’ can be recycled indefinitely in a closed-loop system. EnviroHub is connected to these systems to treat the water and restore it for the next cycle. Silt is a common issue with grey water, click here to read how EnviroHub is used to provide dust suppression water in a busy aggregate processing yard.

Hydrocarbon Monitoring

EnviroHub will monitor the prevalence of common hydrocarbons in the water such as oil, diesel and other fuel. They can be removed either by skimming or lifting floating hydrocarbons or allowing heavier particles to settle.

Alerts

As well as offering real-time monitoring, automatic dosage options and computer-controlled pump start-up and shut down, EnviroHub will alert and inform the site whether the water is safe enough to be disposed of. Warnings are sent within 10% of any permitted limit allowing site management to act before an issue arises. EnviroHub also keeps an automatic log to demonstrate compliance.

EnviroHub Control Module CM02

Live water data capture is turned into automated actions and online digital records through the power of the new, patent-pending CM02 Control Module. The CM02 provides two-way between the Monitoring Unit (MU02) and Senteos online software, even in remote areas with poor radio and mobile phone reception. Live data from the water monitoring feeds in, with automated pump and valve control commands returning to site equipment.

Despite it capabilities, the EnviroHub monitoring and control system runs on very low power, off 415v, 230v, 110v or 12v solar or wind turbine battery systems.

The entire EnviroHub family is built for taking control of water quality and pipeline flow, even in remote, challenging and rugged applications.
