AMRC APPRENTICE JOINS ATLANTIC PUMPSby Bill Noakes
Lawrence Ward joins us as part of his studies at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) where he is enrolled on an NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship.
We are delighted to announce the addition of a new apprentice to our Operations team.
Under normal circumstances Lawrence would be at the Centre for his first six months but unfortunately this isn’t possible with the Centre closed at present. We are therefore working closely with the teaching staff to ensure he doesn’t miss out on any area of training including mechanical fault finding, electrical fault finding, hydraulic and pneumatic fault finding and hand fitting technics
Despite the current global situation, we had no hesitation in recruiting Lawrence. “We wanted to take on a new apprentice now because, ultimately, we believe in both our future and the future of apprentices” said Atlantic Pumps Managing Director Andy Smith.
“Our business relies on having quality engineers with a great attitude for customer care. These are in short supply and we’ve found the best way to get them is to invest in creating them ourselves, in partnership with the AMRC Training Centre.
“It isn’t a quick fix though, so we have gone ahead, knowing that if we want this resource for 2021 and beyond we have to invest now.”
Our belief in investing in youth and helping to train the next generation of engineers has been greatly rewarded in recent years. Lawrence follows highly regarded Operations team members’ Evan Biggin, who was also enrolled on the Maintenance Pathway at the Centre and Mike Young, who undertook training with us while at Sheffield College.
