Which Type of Pump Do I Need?

About Peristaltic Pumps

Peristaltic pumps are a type of positive displacement pump that use low friction rollers to move slurry and dense sludge through an internal hose. Great for challenging applications such as digester or PST clearance, Atlantic Pumps hire fleet of peristaltic pumps can move up to 125m³/h of thick, dense sludge to where it is needed – saving you money on other methods such as vacuum trucks.

Pros

  • Can dry run without causing immediate damage
  • Acts as a valve when not in operation – making tasks such as digestor clearance safer
  • Variable flow rate on demand

Cons

  • Pulsating flow not ideal for long pipelines
  • Low to medium pressure capabilities
  • Not ideal for high temperature applications

About Progressive Cavity Pumps

Progressive cavity pumps use a rotating screw called a rotor, and a stationary stator to more high DS% slurries and sludges over long distances. Due to their non-pulsating flow rate, they are ideal for long pipe runs and pumping to other processes that may be sensitive to pulsation. Atlantic Pumps hire fleet of progressive cavity pumps can move a maximum of 152 m³/h to where it needs to be, whether a few metres across the yard or to the other side of site.

Pros

  • High pressure applications
  • Smooth, non pulsating flow
  • Self priming

Cons

  • Long footprint in comparison to peristaltic
  • Pressure monitoring / relief for protection advised
  • Can clog if too large solids are pumped
