A Day in the Life: Mark Hutchinson - Stores & Logistics
If you’re dropping by our trade counter at Carrwood Road here in Chesterfield, there’s a good chance you’ll be served by Mark. Here he shares an insight into what a regular day looks like at Atlantic Pumps for him.
My workdays always start at 6am, out of bed, take my dog for a walk, get both mine and his breakfast ready, then set off to work at 6:45. A cup of tea and the Operations morning huddle follows at 7:30, where we set out the priorities for the day.
That’s the last bit of predictable in my day - every day is different.
Working alongside Joe P, my day will generally consist of getting works orders picked ready for the engineers to build, offloading delivery trucks, processing goods in stock, doing stock checks, arranging same day couriers for urgent orders, building completed works orders on Orderwise, picking, packing and processing orders ready for despatch.
Other tasks that I undertake include:
- Being ready as one of the sites first aiders to deal with any accidents, and as a fire warden doing regular fire alarm checks etc.
- Dealing with the never-ending phone calls from the office, asking for information, or wanting photographs of stock items.
- I’m generally the first point of contact at Carrwood for any visiting customers or salesmen, so need to be able to give them as much time as needed regardless of how busy the day is.
- I also need to deal with the almost daily arrival of lost delivery drivers, who are sure we must be Putzmeister as their satnav brought them to us!
The couriers will have collected our orders by 4pm and then it’s time to tidy up.
I’m home by about 5pm, then it’s out for a walk with the dog again, have my dinner and then put my feet up and relax.
