A hydrocyclone is ideal for low-maintenance separation and classification of fine particles from slurries or liquid mixes in continual-flow processing. Unlike Centrifuge Separators, Hydro-Cyclones have no moving parts and use the inflow pressure to create their vortex. Molecules above the cut-point report to the bottom outlet spigot and those below the cut-point rise to the top outlet.

Hydrocyclone applications broadly fall into one of two categories; high-volume separation in bulk production environments (aggregates, mill circuits, food ingredients, water treatment), and low-volume/high-value recovery and beneficiation (rare-earth minerals, pilot plants, precious metals, laboratory analysis etc).

The cut-point is determined by the hydrocyclone’s design and the pump feed pressure, delivered by a centrifugal slurry pump or progressive cavity pump. Balancing the pump delivery system with the cyclone design is crucial to successful separation outputs – Atlantic Pumps works with OEM manufacturers and specialists like Salter Cyclones to provide the complete, tailored solution.
