As part of our regular Online Training program we were pleased to host BCL Hydro for a presentation on Tuesday 20th May 2025
Delegates of this and previous BCL Hydro sponsored events said they gained confidence in planning and carrying out their legal duties as well as momentum on improving their on-site routines. The webinar gives valuable knowledge including a clear understanding of legal definitions, typical activities covered by regulation, the licensing and permitting process, exemptions, and how to overcome issues and avoid common pitfalls. In addition to the regulatory side, they also reported insights and useful tips received for improving outcomes and efficiency in the practical management of their site’s WMP.
Navigating the regulatory and permitting requirements of your site water discharge and water abstraction activities.
In a well-attended webinar we hosted with BCL Hydro today (Tuesday 20th 2025), Peter Simpson, Paul Burfit, and Roger McCreadie shared a wealth of information and practical tips around water abstraction and site water discharge.
The presenters shared their experience of working with companies undertaking quarrying, mining, wastewater treatment, industrial effluent, and groundwork infrastructure. Paul Burfit and Peter Simpson from BCL Hydrology and Roger McCredie from Atlantic Pumps took delegates through the key site-water discharge and abstraction processes, covering new permits and renewals, plus the use of smart tech for secure data logging and automated control of abstraction and discharge in modern water management.
Previously only available to existing clients on a group booking basis, this open-access training resource was opened out to anyone with a professional interest in compliance, ESG, and best practice in site or process water management.
The content was particularly relevant for site/area managers, ESG/ESHQ managers, and staff involved in the management of site or process water that is sourced from, or discharged into, surface or groundwaters. The presenters are involved in this work everyday, and we are confident that attendees will reap the benefits from what they discussed.
What we covered:
Water abstraction: Full Licences and Transfer Licences
Discharging offsite: Permitting and implementation. Covering application, compliance, renewals, and practical implementation.
Expert guidance on permits and licences: What you need to know pre-application, how to apply for a new licence, understanding your permissions, and key priorities for complying with, and renewing your licence.
